Hood River Hotel, OR
Welcome
to Hood River's historic hotel, listed on the National Register
of Historic Places What is now the Hood River Hotel was built
in 1913 as the annex to the Victorian Mt. Hood Hotel, which
had graced downtown Hood River since the coming of the transcontinental
railroad in the 1880s.
The original wood-frame building stood on the adjacent parking
lot; it survived into the 1920s, when it was demolished. By
that time, the lobby of the hotel had been moved to the Annex,
facing the Columbia Scenic Highway (now Oak Avenue).
 The
intervening years were unkind to the building. Used as a hotel
and rooming house until 1970, it fell into disrepair and disuse.
The building had been for sale for many years when Pasquale
Barone, visiting from Vancouver, Canada, purchased it in September
1988 and began the restoration work.
For the next 14 months, Pasquale, his wife Jacquie, and local
craftspeople upgraded the facilities to modern standards,
restored many of the features of the original hotel: the lofty
ceilings, expansive windows, brass elevator gate, and marble-faced
lobby fireplace and also incorporated design touches recalling
its turn of the century warmth and character.
Brian and Penny Cunninghame purchased the hotel in September 2000 and continue to operate it as an elegant small-town country inn. Today, the Hood River Hotel has been fully restored to its original glory offering 32 rooms and 9 suites, each different, each individually appointed with antique reproductions and decorations evoking European charm and the hotel's history.
Cornerstone Cuisine specializes in fine Italian and Pacific Northwest Cuisine, and offers a full-service breakfast, lunch, and dinner menu, in the tradition of a century ago, when the Mt. Hood Hotel was Hood River's premiere dining establishment. A newly restored banquet and meeting room facility reflects turn-of-the-century charm. Amenities include today's comforts of a small gym, sauna and Jacuzzi.
The Cunninghame family and the Hood River Hotel staff, invite you step back in time with all of today's amenities in the historic Hood River Hotel. Fine furnishings and an ambiance that surround you will ensure that your visit is as unique and as it will be memorable.
