The Gorge White House, OR

Situated in a beautiful 1910 Dutch Colonial home in the heart of the Hood River Valley, The Gorge White House has been a landmark on Highway 35, the Mount Hood Scenic Byway, for nearly 100 years.  For the first time in it’s history, the home will be open to the public as a retail establishment.

The Gorge White House is owned and operated by the husband and wife team of Camille Hukari and Jerry Tausend, both local Hood Riverites (in fact, Camille’s family has been in Hood River for four generations).  The Gorge White House has been Camille’s family home for sixty years and she has painstakingly restored it and the gardens over the last three years to showcase this beautiful home and share it with the public.  She has applied for listing the home on the National Registry of Historic Places and it has been nominated for that designation by the Oregon State committee.  Do check back to see if and when we receive this listing, as we certainly will be celebrating.

We proudly feature local Columbia Gorge products and what we feel are special gourmet products, including local wine, microbrews, fruit, flowers, jams, artisan cheeses, wild sockeye smoked salmon, d’anjou pear vinegar, dried fruit and more.

We like to call ourselves the “chamber of commerce” of Columbia Gorge wines!  We currently have 20 different wineries represented at The Gorge White House and are adding to our inventory.  We offer a flight of six wines daily, usually three reds and two whites and our surprising local pear wine (we say surprising because it is not what you expect and it is made out of local pears!).  Our wine tasting selections change continuously so that our guests may enjoy the many tastes and styles of our local winemakers.  We offer a flight of two beers at any one time from the six micro-breweries in our area.

Our guests can choose to purchase the entire daily flight of wine for $6.00, the beer flight for $2.00 or elect to taste a single wine or beer offered for $1.00.

We have fields of flowers, pear orchards, berries and table grapes, a beautiful view of our treasured mountains, Hood and Adams and sweeping vistas of the east hills and Pine Grove orchards.  We believe we live a truly unique and beautiful place and welcome the opportunity to share it with you.
