Imperial Stock Ranch, OR
Discover the extraordinary…
It’s not common to find a privately held ranch whose headquarters is a National Historic District. It’s even more uncommon to find one located in Oregon that sustainably produces a wide variety of all natural, handcrafted meats, fibers and garments. In fact, the Imperial Stock Ranch is the only one. Our rich history of more than 135 years is deeply rooted in visionary thinking and the implementation of practices that are anything but ordinary. We are proud to offer you something different. Something very special and unique. Something extraordinary.
Handcrafted, All Natural Beef… Lamb… Yarns… and Artisan Ready-to-wear Fashions…
The Imperial Stock Ranch is a family owned and operated ranch located on more than 30,000 acres of Oregon’s beautiful high desert where you’ll find resident populations of elk, deer, antelope, game birds and fish. It is on this vast landscape that our stewardship practices of the land, the animals and of our family are cultivated and the strong foundation of our business has been forged. Since 1871, the Imperial Stock Ranch has been producing grains, hay, grasses, cattle and sheep. It was here, in the 1880's, that the breeding program which led to a new breed of sheep in America, began. For visitors, a walk through the historic buildings at the ranch headquarters is both a step back in time.....and a step into the future. A place where self-reliance, a rich history and the roots of our culture, intersect with perseverance and creative marketing in food and textiles.
An expedition that spans three centuries…
Many diverse groups have enjoyed the experience of the Imperial Stock Ranch. There’s much to see, from the ranch headquarters (approximately 22 acres in size with 18 buildings and structures from the historic period of the ranch 1871 to 1945), to homestead cabins, Native American sites, cattle operations, sheep, crop production and more. In addition, the servants' quarters (1900) now serves as the Imperial Yarn Shop…fully stocked… and ready-to-wear fashions and meats are available to purchase or order. Agencies from National Marine Fisheries to the Forest Service, to Soil and Water Conservation Districts to environmental groups, private individuals, historical groups, school groups, artists, chefs, producer groups, fiber groups, children and more…2 to 200. Each visit is unique. The Imperial Stock Ranch is a working agricultural entity, and tours are scheduled by appointment.
"What people are saying…"
"The beauty of Imperial Stock Ranch beef and lamb is its simplicity, it's intense and succulent flavor… to be savored and enjoyed."

"Our company representatives who made the initial site visit to the Imperial Stock Ranch near Shaniko, came back 'wide-eyed' over what the Carvers have created there. When you hear Dan Carver share his philosophy of land management…and Jeanne tell her 'sunlight story' of harvesting the grasses with grazing animals who convert that sunlight to food and fiber which give us life…It's impressive to think that this is still happening today. These are people who truly do care, and are committing their lives to doing the right thing."

"Your lamb is so outstanding… I was proud to take it with me to feature at The Beard House in New York…and they raved about it! Imperial Stock Ranch lamb is the best lamb I have ever used. I have been cooking lamb for over 20 years and there is no better lamb anywhere."
