White Salmon Glassworks, WA
We
bought the building with the idea of fixing it up and doing
something fun with it while preserving its charm and character.
It was built in the early 1900's and has a rich history. Most
old timers around White Salmon remember when it was the Red
& White grocery store, but it has been more than that.
Within its walls there have been many businesses. A general
store, an electrical retail sales store, a sporting-goods
store, a butcher shop, even a bowling alley!
Warm Shop
Our fusing studio is equipped with two kilns, plus we're planning
to build a large bell kiln. We have classes and workshops
throughout the year.
In addition we have a full-time bead maker who creates exquisite
beads and jewelry. You'll have to see them to appreciate.
She is available to teach bead-making and flamework as well.
Our studio uses coe 96 glass which is available in a huge
variety of colors. All sheet glass in the warm shop is compatible
with the frit and cullet in our hot shop.
Hot Shop
We are currently running with 250 lbs of glass and 3 glory-holes.
Our largest glory hole is 24 inches. We melt Spectrum soc-96n
nuggets. We have a large top-loading annealer, and a large
front-loader.
The studio is available for rent by qualified glass artists.
Studio reservation requires advance payment per glory-hole
and is scheduled in blocks of 3 hours or more. We also participate
with Hood River Community Education to offer glass blowing
classes throughout the year.
